My Story

A lifetime of helping people, congregations, and communities discover faithful ways forward.

Helping Churches and Leaders Flourish

For most of my life I have been fascinated by one question:

What helps people and communities become more fully alive?

That question has shaped every chapter of my ministry—from parish leadership to pastoral counseling, from congregational consulting to community development. Whether serving a congregation, coaching a pastor, or working alongside nonprofit leaders, my deepest commitment has been helping people discover God's preferred future for their lives and ministries.

I don't see coaching as giving advice. I see it as creating the kind of conversations that help people hear God's voice more clearly, think more deeply, and act more faithfully.

My Journey

Through every chapter of ministry—from parish leadership to counseling, coaching, and community development—I have become convinced that God most often transforms people not through programs but through relationships. My work has always been about creating spaces where people can listen deeply, discover courage, and find the next faithful step together.

I have served five congregations of various sizes, so change has been a part of my journey.  While serving those congregations, leaders changed, membership changed, my family was growing through stages, I continued my education, and encountered changes that shaped me through pain and grace.  The anchor through storm and calm has always been my baptism.  I was claimed and called to follow this path of faith.  Living with and through change transformed me into a non-anxious presence through a developing spiritual strength and a network of loving relationships that supported me.  These two things, spiritual practice and a support network, are the strongest tools God gives us to navigate ministry and life.

Every leader has a story.

Congregations have stories.

Communities have stories.

When we understand those stories—and the systems that shape them—we begin to see new possibilities that weren't visible before.

My work draws from

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Family Systems Theory

  • Congregational Systems

  • Appreciative Inquiry

  • Organizational Development

  • Leadership Coaching

  • Reformed Theology

Rather than telling clients what to do, I help them discover wiser questions, healthier relationships, and faithful practices that lead toward lasting change.

Deep Listening

I help people hear both what they are saying and what they have not yet found words to express.

Faithful Discernment

Our work is about discovering the next faithful step rather than chasing quick fixes.

Practical Wisdom

Thirty-five years of ministry and organizational leadership provide a broad perspective without offering canned answers.

When I'm not coaching or writing, you'll probably find me volunteering, reading, or discovering another culture through travel. These experiences continually remind me that growth rarely happens on familiar paths—and that every meaningful journey is easier when we don't travel alone.
